Police Investigate Death of Russellville Man

Sevierville Police Department (SPD) detectives are investigating the death of a Russellville, Tennessee man. 33-year old Jeffrey Mark Carpenter was pronounced dead at Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center yesterday afternoon, Sunday, January 21, 2007.
SPD officers responded to the Landmark Inn, 401 Forks of the River Parkway at about 12:00PM Sunday, January 21, 2007 after hotel staff requested assistance regarding two possibly intoxicated individuals staying in one of the guest rooms.
SPD Officer Paul Laymon discovered Mr. Carpenter in a guest room with a female, later identified as 31-year old Christy L. Long of Morristown, Tennessee. Officer Laymon found Mr. Carpenter unresponsive and determined he was not alive.
According to SPD Detective Tim Coulter, numerous prescription pills were found in the room. Ms. Long was subsequently arrested and charged by Officer Laymon with possession of a Schedule IV substance (Valium) and transported to the Sevier County Jail.
