GATLINBURG – The City’s Flood Warning System has passed the test to date and is continually being enhanced as part of Gatlinburg’s emergency preparedness plan.
“The most recent tests have gone well,” said Chief Greg Patterson of the Gatlinburg Fire Department. “During our test in late September, all the sirens and strobe lights performed as they should.”
Routine tests of Gatlinburg’s Flood Warning System siren occur three times annually, on the last Thursdays of January, April and September.
The first test this year is scheduled for this Thursday, January 25, with additional tests set for April 26 and September 27. Sirens will sound and strobe lights will flash at noon as part of the test.
Eight electronic rain gauges are situated in Gatlinburg and Great Smoky Mountains National Park which are capable of being monitored at the Gatlinburg Fire Department, with that data simultaneously available to the National Weather Service in Morristown.
