Gatlinburg All Community Bible School Beginning January 28

Sponsored by the Gatlinburg First United Methodist Church, Gatlinburg Presbyterian Church and Our Savior Lutheran Church, the Gatlinburg All Community Bible School begins Sunday evening at 6:00PM at the First United Methodist Church where a potluck dinner will be served. Dr. Fred Reisz, President Emeritus, The Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary will serve as speaker for all four evenings of the event. The first three evenings of the event are geared toward an adult audience with the final night being a Family Night for children also. Dr. Reisz (pronounced \"Reese\") was President of The Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary from 1992 to August, 2006 Dr. Reisz is a graduate of Gettysburg College and The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg. He was voted into Phi Beta Kappa at Gettysburg College. He has the Masters and Ph.D degrees in systematic theology from the Divinity School of the University of Chicago. Dr. Reisz began his ministry as Associate Lutheran minister at Pennsylvania State University. Subsequently, he served for five years as Pastor to the University at Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio, a Lutheran related college. Dr. Reisz is married to May Reisz, a professional artist. They have two daughters: Katherine, a product promotion writer with a software company, and Heather, working in the Development office staff of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Dr. Reisz is the author of one book, a collection of poetical sermons titled On the Wilderness Way: Meditations for an Advent People. He has written over 60 articles and essays in books. He has had sermons and poetry published. He has served on numerous Lutheran synodical and national church committees and been active ecumenically. While in college, he was the national President of The Luther League of American (ULCA). For twelve years, he was on the Board of the Education and the Society Unit of the National Council of Churches, where he served as an officer of the board of Higher Education and Schools and was an elected member of its Executive Committee. He serves on the National United Methodist - ELCA Dialog. Dr. Reisz holds memberships in the American Academy of Religion, Bread for the World, and the North American Paul Tillich Society (which he served as President). His principal hobby is the performance of magic for which he has won regional competitions. He is a member of the Society of American Magicians and the International Brotherhood of Magicians. Dr. Reisz will be speaking on “Journeying with Jesus to Lent: Birth, Parable and Cross.” Each evening a full dinner will be served along with music and prayer. The final evening will be a Family Night held for Adults and Children and will make use of Dr. Reisz’s magical talents.
