Police Caution Residents and Businesses Regarding Persons Soliciting Donations For Firefighters

published: February 12 2007 12:00 AM updated:: February 12 2007 12:00 AM
The SPD was notified today, Friday, February 9, 2007 that a person soliciting donations for firefighters reportedly approached at least two area businesses. The Sevierville Fire Department does not solicit donations and the Sevier County Volunteer Fire Department is not currently soliciting donations. The Sevierville Police Department (SPD) recommends that residents and business operators beware of persons soliciting donations for firefighters or fire departments and associations. Door-to-door solicitors are required by City ordinance to request and obtain a permit at City Hall. The City does not have any current door-to-door solicitation permits on file. At this time, police cannot confirm the legitimacy of this alleged door-to-door solicitation. The SPD recommends that citizens verify the legitimacy of individuals who solicit door-to-door before making donations. The City ordinance requires solicitors to provide a copy of a valid City permit when requested. Anyone with information regarding persons soliciting donations for firefighters is requested to call the SPD at 453-5506.
