East Tennessee – East Tennessee Foundation (ETF) announces the availability of a scholarship for Sevier County students for the 2007-2008 school year. The Ruby A. Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund is now accepting applications from current public health nurses and current public health nursing students. Applications, guidelines and deadlines are now available at www.easttennesseefoundation.org. The application deadline is Friday, April 20, 2007.
The fund was established in 2003 by Mr. Carroll Brown to honor his wife and her 25 years as a public health nurse. This scholarship is intended for, and preference will be given to, current public health nurses seeking to continue their education on a full- or part-time basis. This one-year scholarship is intended to cover $2,700 of educational expenses and will serve to recognize someone who embodies the quality of serving others as exhibited in Ruby’s life.
Scholarship program requirements range from financial need to scholastic achievement. Several scholarships are targeted toward specific schools or counties, students involved in certain extracurricular activities, or those who may not display the highest scholastic rankings yet still possess great potential and motivation. Others are geared toward students pursuing a specific field, such as business or nursing.
In Fall 2006, over $142,000 was distributed and over $640,000 was committed in scholarship monies to 85 students within ETF’s 25-county service area. Scholarships provided through ETF help fulfill the dreams of those students wishing to obtain a secondary education, whether they are graduating high school seniors or returning adult students.
Scholarships administered by ETF allow individuals and groups to honor loved ones while helping change the lives of those pursuing higher education. Many of the scholarships have been established to honor the memory of a lost parent, spouse or child. Some have been founded to honor coaches or prominent community leaders.
