Girl Scouts will show that true beauty comes from inside by hosting the first-ever Spa Day at Camp Tanasi. All East Tennessee girls ages 11 and 12 are invited, even if they aren’t Girl Scouts.
“We are reaching out to all girls with a program that is just fun, educational and relevant to what’s really on their minds,” says Tanasi Council’s Chief Operations Officer Mary Leidig. “This day is also a great introduction to Girl Scouting.”
Girls often worry about how they look. Girl Scouts USA research shows that 49 percent of girls worry “a lot” about their appearance and girls are more afraid of being teased or bullied than of a terrorist attack.
Spa Day activities with Girl Scout counselors are all designed to boost self-esteem and give girls some fun ideas on health. Activities include:
• Creating homemade beauty treatments, including lip gloss an fizzy bath balls
• Making a “sweet dreams” pillow and learning the power of fragrance
• Hiking to a candlelit tree house to begin a journal
• Expression through retro art, including tie-dye and jewelry making
• Yoga by Norris Lake
• Discovering cool new moves in the clover with martial arts
Spa Day at Camp Tanasi is Saturday, June 24, 2006, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. A $12 fee covers all activities and food.
This great day on Camp Tanasi’s nearly 500 acres ends with a traditional campfire for parents and girls. The hot dog cookout starts at 6 p.m.
Girls must register by June 19. For more information, go to www.tanasi.org or call the Council Program Registrar at (865) 688-9440, ext. 203.
Camp Tanasi is located at 123 Dark Hollow Road in Anderson County, 30 minutes north of Knoxville.
