Three individuals have been named to vice president positions at Walters State Community College. Dr. R. Foster Chason is the new vice president for Student Affairs and Director of Athletics effective March 1; Dr. Debra Scott has been named vice president for Planning, Research and Assessment, and Dr. Eddie Stone is vice president for Information and Educational Technologies. Chason comes to Walters State from Chattanooga State Technical Community College. He replaces Dr. Pamela Goodman, who retired as vice president for student affairs and as athletic director in September. The vice president for student affairs is responsible for the administration of the college’s Student Affairs Division, which includes the departments of Admissions and Enrollment Management, Counseling and Testing, Financial Aid, Records and Student Information Systems and Student Support Services, as well as other offices related to student development and services that complement classroom activities. As athletic director, Chason will provide leadership for the college’s five intercollegiate athletic teams. Scott has worked at Walters State for over 19 years, serving the college in several capacities. She has worked as a contract compliance assistant, purchasing agent, internal auditor and director, dean and now vice president for Planning, Research and Assessment. Prior to joining Walters State, she worked as an accountant at a private firm and worked at ETSU as a grant accountant. Scott is responsible for the college’s planning, assessment, research and continuous improvement for institutional effectiveness. Stone has been with Walters State since 1997. He served as director, associate vice president and chief information officer of Information and Educational Technologies before being named vice president. Stone worked in various computer-service management positions at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory before joining Walters State. He has a doctorate of philosophy in education and master’s and bachelor’s in mathematics from the University of Tennessee.
