More brush fires in Seymour

news@theheraldnewspapers.com Driving down Chapman Hwy. in the early afternoon Tuesday drivers could see a large bellow of smoke going up in the air. Yet, another brush fire in the Blount County/Sevier County area. After several attempts firefighters were able to put out the blaze but not before several acres had burned. The fire started on Maples Rd. in the Seymour area. It was reported that the fire started as a controlled debris burn but quickly spread, partly due to high winds. Members of the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department, the Blount County Fire Department, and the Forestry Service responded to the scene. Firefighters bulldozed a line around the fire to contain it. At press time the firefighters were battling yet another blaze near the Brookhaven area. Nearly two dozen fires have been reported in just the past two days. Today’s warm weather, with near 70 degree warmth, will certainly not put a damper on the amounts of brush fires in the area. Thursday morning rains in the forecast will hopefully bring some relief.
