People are known to wait for the last minute to do things and paying their property taxes was no exception. The lines remained steady all day as people came into the Sevier County Courthouse to the trustee’s office to pay their property taxes for the 2005 year.
The new drive through had a steady flow as well with even a few walk-ups to the drive through window. This service was available through February 28 but according to Sevier County Trustee Jettie Clabo once people have been re-billed with penalties for not paying on time they can bring their card and payment to the drive-up window again.
The same window has been available for residents to renew license decals for the past four years.
The Sevier County Clerk’s office in Gatlinburg at the Shilling Center was another place that residents could go for last minute payments.
Property tax payments could be made with a credit card for a 2% service charge.
“It’s been busy. Everything turned out good and we had lines off and on all day,” stated Clabo. “The drive through did great. The last three or fours we have had people going through it.”
Clabo said she hoped no one had to wait in long to long. “We felt no one had to wait too long and we hope people felt the same way. We appreciate all our customers’ patience. It’s always good to see our taxpayers.”
The total of yesterday’s receipts had yet to be tabulated by press time but the prior days receipts brought in a little over a million dollars.
“We normally do more than that on the final day,” stated Clabo.
