After nearly a decade of discussion, efforts to extend sewer service to some Seymour area businesses should be complete this week, according to one of the project’s organizers.
According to Ron French, with Seymour Sewer, Inc., a group of interested stakeholders have been trying to complete the project for several years.
Seymour Sewer Inc. was created to combine the efforts of the property owners in order to disperse the construction cost equally among the members. A group of ten individuals with a common interest of property ownership along Chapman Highway committed $150,000.00 and awarded a contract for sewer line installation.
That contract to run a sewer line between Macon Lane in Seymour up to Shooks Gap, along the west side of Chapman Highway was awarded in 2003 following a series of meetings with the shareholders.
Bill Wright of B & L Realty & Associates Inc. was awarded the contract to perform the work of installing a 4” to 6” pressure line along Chapman Highway.
According to French, that contract involved two lines crossing Chapman, which were never completed, but are now close to a reality for the long-awaited project.
In a 2002 meeting with shareholders at the project’s onset, French said: “This project will mean several positive things, not only for us but for the community. It would increase the possibilities for business expansion and increase the proposed sewer system and Sevierville Water System.”
Anyone tying into the sewer line after completion would pay a pro-rated cost amounting to the same cost as the original participants plus one percent.
