Locals prepare for wedding despite setbacks

casey@theheraldnewspapers.com Seymour residents Miranda Gadd and Charlie Stuzman are to be wed on Saturday and are hoping for a change of luck following a string of relentless misfortunes that has befallen their family over the past several weeks. Less than a month ago, Gadd’s mother, Pamela Rogers, was admitted to Saint Mary’s hospital and was informed by doctors that she has a rare disease that affects the spinal cord. “I was at work one day and lost the use of my hand,” Rogers said. The family managed to keep their spirits up with their eye on the Big Day, paying regular visits to Saint Mary’s. Only days after Rogers’ admission to the hospital, the soon-to-be-newlyweds returned to their home to find that they had been robbed. “Miranda left work and brought me something to eat at the hospital. When she went home she found that her home had been broken in to,” said Rogers. “I thought I was going to drown in tears knowing that I couldn’t do anything for her,” she said. Police investigated the break-in on Berry Way to find that the door had been destroyed with a crowbar and cash and CDs had been stolen. Gadd and Stuzman have been together for five years now, according to Rogers. “These are good kids who did everything right,” she said. “And, yet so many unfortunate things have happened to them in the past weeks.” Both are Seymour High School graduates who were active in the school’s marching band. Despite their misfortunes, the family looks forward to their Saturday wedding date going off without a hitch. Miranda D. Gadd and Charles R. Stuzman are set to be wed at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 1, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
