Sequoyah Cubs & Bugs Weekend

published: June 27 2006 12:00 AM updated:: June 27 2006 12:00 AM
Bugs, slugs and slimy stuff is what the Cub and Webelos Scouts’ weekend was full of at Kings’ Academy property last weekend. 52 boys registered for the weekend Bug Fear Factor event which entailed arts and crafts, sports and competition that 25 to 30 staff members helped coach along. Included in the Bug Fear Factor was an obstacle course the scouts had to cover which included some of the slimiest stuff the creators could come up with. To give the kids a good idea of bugs, The Orkin man gave a presentation of the different type of bugs. Various other forms of entertainment was available throughout the weekend. The obstacle course the kids had to take started with a trip through the slip and slide into the goo, find a bug, go under the big spider on their back, while bugs were dropping on them, poke a hole thru, grab a spider then they have to craw thru the worm, grab a worm on their way, over to the monkey bridge set up without falling and finally touch the flag. The entire setup was created by Kyle Cantor, Kristi’s husband. This is an annual June event for the Sequoyah District which includes Sevier County and S. Knox County. This annual event has been held at the Sevier County Fairgrounds. “We find that Kings Academy to be more friendly and this is more centrally located,” stated Kristi Cantor. The scouts included kids up to fifth grade.
