Joseph Willmering, 86, a long-time resident of Seymour, passed away peacefully on Memorial Day in Jupiter, Fla with his children by his side. Joseph was a World War II veteran with the Department of the Navy as a SeaBee stationed in Virginia. He later worked for Oak Ridge National Laboratories as a chemical engineer for more than 20 years before retiring in Seymour. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Delores Willmering, in 2003. They have three children, Mary, Mike, and Karen, who graduated from The University of Tennessee. Joe’s compassion and love for others was shown beautifully in his volunteer work with the St. Vincent DePaul Society from his parish at Holy Family Catholic Church. He was very active in the parish and assisted the church in many building projects. Joe’s thoughtfulness and insight were very valuable gifts to his friends and family. His parents were Joseph and Stella Willmering, of St. Louis, MO. Joe has one brother, Roland, who resides in Illinois. The funeral mass will be 6:30 p.m. Friday at Holy Family Church with Father Thomas O’Connell officiating. Graveside service and interment will be 9 a.m. Saturday in Atchley’s Seymour Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends following Mass in the Fellowship Hall at Holy Family Catholic Church. Atchley Funeral Home Seymour, 122 Peacock Court in Seymour, TN. is handling arrangements.
