• During the past year, the Tennessee State Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation has raised and spent more than $50,000 on nine wildlife habitat improvement projects.
• The NWTF money was combined with cooperator dollars to improve more than 21,000 acres and plant 2,000 white oak, crabapple and hawthorn seedlings.
• Some of the projects included 21,000 acres of prescribed burning on the Telico and Oconee ranger districts and improving more than 200 acres of wildlife openings, planting projects and work to remove plant species, such as kudzu and fescue, with little or no value to wildlife.
• The NWTF will host its 30th annual National Convention and Sport Show at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center, Feb. 23 to Feb. 26.
• An educational wild turkey release will kick off the convention at the J. Percy Priest Wildlife Management Area in Nashville, Tenn., February 22 at 10 a.m.
• The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and the NWTF are hosting the release to celebrate their partnership and successes in wild turkey restoration.
