A go-cart, reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed was involved in a collision with a pickup truck on Moutain Drive last week. The driver of the go-cart, a 22-year-old male, was transported by a Lifestar helicopter following the crash. The driver was transported to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville following the incident. The driver of the pickup truck “was not complaining of any injuries on the scene.” According to a news release from the Sevier County Sheriff’s Department, on Saturday, Feb. 25, at approximately 3 p.m., Deputy David Foli was dispatched to a vehicle accident on Mountain Drive, off Pittman Center Road. Foli reported that a man driving a pickup truck was heading west on Mountain Drive “when the driver observed a go-cart traveling east at a high rate of speed toward him,” according to the release. The driver told Foli that he came to a stop “as the go-cart continued toward him and struck the truck, head-on, causing the truck to slide backwards a few feet and the go-cart to catch fire after impact,” the release said. The Richardson Cove Volunteer Fire Department, Sevier County Ambulance Service and the Sevierville Police Department were also on the scene and assisted with the landing of the Lifestar helicopter.
