Meet the candidates,
support local schools
Jones Cove Elementary will be hosting a Pie Supper tonight at 6:30 p.m. Organizers are inviting the public to come and meet the candidates for the upcoming election, while raising money for the school with a Pie and Cake Auction.
Ms. Nikki’s Social Studies classes have come up with a variety of questions for the candidates so attendees can learn about their views on important issues affecting the area.
A Chili Supper will begin before the Pie Auction at 5 p.m. and will last until 6:30 p.m. when the auction begins.
The price for the Chili Supper is $3 and will include a bowl of chili with sides and a drink.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend these meetings. Anyone wishing to speak under Petitions and Communications from the Public may do so by signing their name and topic on the sign-in sheet at the podium prior to the meeting being called to order.
WSC holds Soul Food TasteFest
Walters State Community College’s celebration of Black History Month will end on Tuesday with the annual Soul Food Tastefest.
At the Campus Cafe between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Tuesday “down-home favorites” will be served. They’ll be serviing beans, corn bread, desserts, as well as chitlins and pig’s feet.
Cooks will also be there to share their secrets. The event is free and everyone is welcome.
Globalization lecture at Maryville College
Noted economist and CNN commentator Dr. Jeffrey Rosensweig will open Maryville College’s Spring 2006 Community Conversations series March 1 with a presentation entitled “Surviving and Thriving in This Global Century.”
The event, which will take place at 7 p.m. in the Music Hall of the College’s Fine Arts Center, is the first of four “conversations” planned to examine issues of globalization this semester.
“Dr. Rosensweig is a leading expert on global economic forecasting,” explained Dr. Thomas Conte, assistant professor of political science and chairperson of Community Conversations, “and since globalization is most often thought of in economic terms, we decided that it made sense to tackle this theme first.”
Rosensweig, who earned degrees in economics from Yale, Oxford University (as a Marshall Scholar) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
