EMILY HOLLINGSWORTH CHOSEN AS NISWONGER SCHOLAR

The NISWONGER FOUNDATION, formed by Landair and Forward Air founder, Scott M. Niswonger, announced today the selection of ten East Tennessee high school seniors to join its scholarship and leadership training program. Among those selected was EMILY HOLLINGSWORTH of Sevierville. Emily is a senior at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School. While at Gatlinburg-Pittman, she has received numerous honors and awards including WBIR Top Ten Amazing Kids and the Governor’s School for Prospective Teachers. She is also co-captain of the Varsity Swim Team and an active volunteer in her community. Her “Books for Katrina Kids” project collected more than 11,000 books and attracted broad media attention. NISWONGER SCHOLARS are chosen primarily for their leadership potential and commitment to the betterment of themselves and their home communities. Scholarship recipients participate in leadership training through the Tusculum Institute for Public Leadership and Policy and participate in monthly service learning projects. Most importantly, NISWONGER SCHOLARS commit themselves to return to the region for work and service in their chosen professions at some future date. “We are pleased to be adding such an outstanding young person as Emily Hollingsworth to our program,” said Oliver Thomas, Executive Director of the Foundation. “Folks in Sevier County can celebrate the fact that Emily will be returning to our region someday for work and service.”
