Bob Corker, Tennessee’s Republican nominee for the United States Senate, today announced that he will participate in three televised debates across the state; one in East, Middle and West Tennessee.
“I look forward to debating the issues with Congressman Ford,” said Corker. “Voters will have an opportunity to hear first-hand how my record right in here in Tennessee of using conservative principles to achieve positive results differs from Congressman Ford’s decade of Washington experience as the most liberal member of the Tennessee delegation.”
The debates will be in Chattanooga, Nashville and Memphis and will occur throughout October.
• In Memphis, the debate will be hosted by News Channel 3, The Commercial Appeal, Comcast Cable, IMPACT Memphis and the Memphis Urban League of Young Professionals and will occur on Saturday, Oct. 7.
• The Chattanooga debate will be sponsored by the Chattanooga Times Free Press, News Channel 9 and the Chattanooga Bar Association and take place on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
• The Nashville debate will be hosted by the League of Women Voters of Tennessee and News Channel 5 and is scheduled to be broadcast statewide. This debate will take place on Saturday, Oct. 28.
During statewide elections, Tennesseans typically experienced three debates in each grand division of the state.
In this year’s governor’s race, the candidates are scheduled to debate three times. In the 2002 governor’s contest, there were also three debates in East, Middle and West Tennessee. In 1994, in the Senate race for this seat, there were also three debates held.
