joe@theheraldnewspapers.com A Sevier County Constable was struck by a vehicle and thrown 15 feet on Chapman Highway. Three-term County Constable Jack Galyon of Seymour was working a traffic accident on Chapman Highway at approximately 12:30 a.m. a couple of weeks back along with four other Sevier County Sheriff Deputy units when he was struck by a pickup truck. “I was directing traffic around the scene of the accident near Sugarloaf on Chapman with a large visible orange cone on the end of my flashlight for probably 30 minutes when all of a sudden I was attempting to stop south-bound traffic so that north-bound traffic could come through,” Galyon told The Herald. “All of a sudden a vehicle was coming at a high rate of speed and I heard skidding and saw lights coming towards me. I immediately took off running to keep from getting hit. I was stuck on my left side which knocked me 15 feet onto the payment.” According to reports, Charles Ray Miller of Sevierville was the driver of the pickup truck that struck Galyon. According to Galyon, Miller actually came over into another lane as he struck Galyon. Galyon was taken to Sevier County Fort Sanders Hospital via Sevier County Ambulance where he received a diagnosis of a fractured wrist, brushed forearm and hip and laceration to his body in several locations. Each year many officers and emergency personnel are injured or killed while working an accident scene. When police and other emergency vehicles are in sight, it is important to slow down and follow the directions of the officers at the scene.
