Growth calls for new PO routes

The Seymour area U.S. Postal Service Office is feeling the squeeze of Seymour’s tremendous growth. According to Steve Cole with the Seymour post office, some of the post office’s routes were becoming overburdened with the constant construction of new homes. Cole said that each year the post office does regular route counts to keep tabs on growth in specific areas. He said that new routes for the post office are created each year, at most, and that Sevierville’s post office will most likely be adding routes as well. Cole said that the changes will mainly consist of a reshuffling the routes to even out the distribution. He said that this would not necessitate additional postal service employees and that the Seymour Post Office currently has adequate staffing. In all, the USPS delivers 212 billion pieces of mail to over 144 million homes, businesses and post office boxes in virtually every state, city, and town in the country, including Puerto Rico, Guam, the American Virgin Islands and American Samoa.
