City discusses fire study, sewer projects

Officials with the City of Pigeon Forge will be holding a special workshop meeting to discuss several important projects including the progress on several wastewater projects and sewer extensions, as well as the presentation of a technical study of the volunteer fire department. The Municipal Technical Advisory Service performed a study of the Pigeon Forge Volunteer Fire Department, which will be presented to the city officials at the workshop. An agency of The University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service, MTAS provides technical assistance to cities and towns across the state-their governing bodies, mayors, city managers, city recorders, and city department heads. As a part of the study, consultants maintain regular contact with city officials, providing suggestions, ideas, and information through field visits or telephone conversations. MTAS annually completes more than 1,000 major municipal management projects and provides an average of 6,000 other services each year. In other business, officials will be hearing updates on the Red Roof Interceptor and North Parkway sewer projects and also for proposed expansion of the city’s wastewater treatment plant. The treatment plant has been pushed to near capacity while state regulators are telling city public work officials that they cannot increase outflow at the current location, on the West Prong of the Little Pigeon River.
