G-P and Lady Lions battle to tie
The King’s Academy and Gatlinburg-Pittman battled to a 4-4 tie Monday in county soccer action.
The Lady Highlanders outscored the Lady Lions 3-1 in the first half and the King’s Academy returned the favor in the second half to knot the count.
G-P got unassisted goals from Brittany Everhart and Kellie Wilson, and Summer Blaylock scored on a penalty kick to give the Lady Highlanders a 3-0 advantage.
Leah Rose scored an unassisted goal to put the Lady Lions on the board before the end of the first half.
G-P’s Chelcey Flenniken converted a Marissa Gentry assist to put the Lady Highlanders up 4-1 early in the second half, but from there it was all Lady Lions.
Katie King scored off a Rose assist, Brenna Cook scored off a Megan Plante pass, and King tied the score by netting a goal off a Holly Reagan assist.
The King’s Academy, who now stands at 4-2-1 on the season, had eight shots on goal while the Lady Highlanders had nine attempts at The King’s Academy’s goal.
Lady Eagles fall to Alcoa in volleyball
Alcoa handed the Seymour Lady Eagles their first District 3A/AA loss Monday evening by winning three straight games (25-18, 25-17 and 26-24) after dropping the first (25-13) to the Lady Eagles.
Seymour is now 15-10 overall and 4-1 in district play while the Lady Tornadoes improved to 13-10 and 4-0.
Mandy England had 19 spikes, nine kills and nine blocks for the Lady Eagles. Seymour’s Crystal Suttles contributed 14 points, six aces, seven spikes and five kills.
Lady Bears lose pair of matches at S-D meet
Sevier County’s volleyball squad dropped matches to Karns and Grace Christian Monday in a four team meet at South-Doyle High School.
The Lady Bears fell to the Lady Beavers 25-13, 25-14 and 25-16. Sevier County was led in the match by Marissa Morris with four points and two digs.
The Lady Bears won the first game with Grace Christian 25-19 before dropping thee in a row 25-17, 25-13 and 25-13.
Jaquelin Kremer had 10 points, 10 kills and two blocks against Grace Christian.
