Fire danger high

published: September 16 2005 12:00 AM updated:: September 16 2005 12:00 AM
Sevier County Sheriff’s Deputy Allen Lawson was dispatched to put out a brush fire at the corner of Chapman Highway and Highway 411. It is unclear as to how the fire started. Concern of a possible explosion from the gas pumps just feet away was quickly extinguished along with the brush fire due to the quick actions of Officer Lawson. However, the fire re-ignited and the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene with a Fire truck to fully extinguish the fire. The second fire, located about two miles away, off of N. Knob Creek Road was reported just minutes after the first brush fire. Seymour Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to that fire as it was considerably larger. The fire was in a large gully and there were no structures around. Sevier County Ambulance also was on the scene in the event there was a need.
