Parton named Tennessee Reading Teacher of the Year for 2005-2006

news@theheraldnewspapers.com The Tennessee Reading Association held its 32nd Annual Conference on November 13-15, 2006 at the Cool Springs Embassy Suites just outside Nashville, Tennessee. The Tennessee Reading Association named Angela Parton, 3rd Grade Teacher, Boyd’s Creek Elementary School, the recipient of the 2005 – 2006 TN Reading Teacher of the Year. Over 350 teachers, principals, administrators, and State Department of Education Curriculum Specialists witnessed this prestigious recognition. Betty Denton, Awards Chairperson for Tennessee Reading, presented Angie with the award at the 2nd General Session on Monday, November 14th. Each year two teachers from Sevier County Reading Association are nominated for this outstanding award. With over 14 Reading Councils in the Association many outstanding teachers are nominated. “We are all proud of Angie’s accomplishments as is John Wade, Principal of Boyd’s Creek Elementary,” stated Randall B. Kincaid, President, Sevier County Reading Association. As Wade states, “She well deserves this award, and I am proud to have her on my staff.” Angie began her work in the school system volunteering, working as a classroom paraprofessional, and later going on to Carson Newman College to receive her degree in Elementary Education. “Having worked with and completed evaluations on Ms. Parton I knew she was an excellent candidate for this award,” Kincaid said. Angie will now compete at the national level for the International Reading Association’s Reading Teacher of the Year at the 2007 Conference in Toronto, Canada. Congratulations Angela Parton on this prestigious award. “As President of the Sevier County Reading Association I want to extend my thanks and gratitude for your hard work and dedication to teaching children the love of reading,” stated Kincaid.
