Light adjustments improve city flow

Several changes to traffic signal phases completed
To improve traffic flow for citizens and visitors, the City of Sevierville announces that several traffic signal phases have been changed, as follows:
• Westbound traffic on SR 139 now has a protected left turn signal onto Winfield Dunn Parkway (Hwy. 66). A “protected turn” means that vehicles will receive a green arrow that will allow a left turn while opposing traffic has a red light. When the green arrow is not present, the turn is not protected.
• Westbound traffic on Dolly Parton Parkway now has a protected left turn signal onto Industrial Drive, across from Sevier County High School.
• The traffic light on Highway 66 that controls traffic leaving from the access road next to Buddy’s Barbeque on the east and CVS Pharmacy on the west is now a split phase signal. “Split phase” means that while one direction has a green light and a green left turnarrow, opposing traffic has a red light. Traffic exiting these two areas onto Hwy. 66 will take turns, controlled by the traffic light.
These changes should result in less confusing turning movements for motorists. Sevierville Police Chief Don Myers says that comments and suggestions from citizens led to the improvements. “The changes will result in more efficient and safer traffic flow for motorists in these areas,” Myers said.
