Master Gardener Class Completed

Sevier Counties first ever Master Gardener group recently completed the classroom portion of their training. Twenty-seven Sevier County residents completed the fourteen classes learning about all aspects of lawns, gardens, flowers, trees and insects and plant diseases. Each of these members will be looking to volunteer 40 hours of service back toSevier County to complete the last part of their Master Gardener training, which is offered by the University Of Tennessee Extension.Tennessee Master Gardeners are trained volunteers that help the Extension Office share the latest and greatest gardening information! All volunteers are trained with 40 hours of horticultural classes and return 40 hours of volunteer community service through their Extension office.Statewide there are approximately 2,000 active Master Gardeners in 44 counties. Master Gardeners who continue to participate in the program return at least 25 hours of service with a minimum of 8 continued education hours annually. Sevier County is currently planning to form an active group of area Master Gardeners. If you are a current Master Gardener and would like to be a part of the Sevier County Group you can contact the Sevier County Extension Office at 453-3695 for more information.If you missed out on the first class of Master Gardeners and would like to be included in the next training you can call the Extension Office to have your name added to the waiting list.
