Seymour Middle School Ensemble has success with madrigal dinner

Second consecutive night as a sell out The Seymour Middle School Eagle Ensemble presented their fourth annual madrigal dinner. The event was a huge success as both shows sold out and filled the capacity of the Seymour First Baptist Church. “This was our first year we put on two shows, and it’s obviously well received by the public,” commented Lisa Bitzas, choir director for the school. The public initially gathered in the sanctuary of the church to prepare for the dinner and entertainment. They were then escorted into the dining hall, where they were seated in what looked like a king’s dining hall. They ate a delicious meal of pork roast, green beans, mashed potatoes, salad, rolls and red velvet cake. The Stokely Hospitality Group cooked the meal as the ensemble members served it. “Little Fools Fall in Love” was the name of the program the students dramatized. The decorations, props, costumes and music were set in the Renaissance period around the year 1493. Professional lighting and staging added to the entertainment. Jill Ambrose and Jean Hammond both contributed vastly to the detail in the costumes. “This is a huge undertaking to present each year and we certainly could not do it without the support and dedication of the parents and administration,” remarked Bitzas. “A heartfelt thank-you goes out to all those who were involved.” Any profits made from the production will go back to the choir department for purchasing music for their spring show.
