published: September 04 2003 12:00 AM updated:: September 04 2003 12:00 AM
Medic Regional Blood Center will be holding a community blood drive at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies on Thursday, September 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Each donor at this blood drive will receive one free, non-transferable ticket to Ripley’s Aquarium. Residents are encouraged to donate blood and support their local hospitals. Medic Regional Blood Center is the sole supplier of blood to 28 local hospitals, including Sevier and Blount counties. “The support of local citizens is critical to maintaining a safe and adequate blood supply,” said Jim Cundall, Associate Director of Medic. “At this time of critical need, it is even more important for citizens to step up to the plate and show their support.”  Donors must be at least 17 years of age and weigh at least 110 pounds. Donors will receive a free tee shirt as well as a free cholesterol screen (fasting not required). For more information, please contact Medic Regional Blood Center at 865-524-3074 or check out the website at www.medicblood.org.
