Anna Suzy Batchelder, 21, of Sidney, Ohio was taken into custody and charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping. Batchelder, who was also wanted in North Carolina and Ohio, was arrested in Florida and was extradited to Sevier County on May 9th. On Thursday, March 13th 2003, at Five Oaks Mall in Sevierville, an armed robbery and sexual assault occurred. Captain Jim Bohanan and Detectives Sam Hinson, Eric Ramsey and Doug Shanks responded to the mall restrooms, located between County Ritz Sandwich Shop and Pac Sun clothing store, at approximately 2:24 p.m. that day. Sevierville Criminal Investigation Division Detective Hinson had charged 26-year old Jeremy Taylor of Sidney, Ohio, with aggravated rape, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery and aggravated assault. Taylor is currently serving a 22-month sentence on an unrelated conviction in Shelby County, Ohio. According to police reports Taylor, allegedly entered the women’s restroom and robbed and sexually assaulted a 61-year old female at gunpoint. According to a warrant issued in Sevier County, Batchelder allegedly assisted in the confinement of the victim against her will in order to facilitate the robbery. She also allegedly assisted in the robbery at gunpoint of the victim. Shortly after the March 13, 2003 incident, Detective Hinson issued a bulletin through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC). A Shelby County, Ohio detective had received information that implicated Taylor in a robbery similar to the March 13 incident and, after receiving the NCIC bulletin, decided to interview Taylor, who was already in jail. Taylor allegedly confessed to the detective on March 25, whereupon she notified Detective Hinson. Detective Hinson traveled to Ohio on March 31, 2003 and interviewed Taylor. “The diligent efforts of Detective Hinson and the CID staff, coupled with the awareness of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, have resulted in a solid case against these two individuals,” said Sevierville Police Chief Don Myers. Batchelder was being held on a $750,000 bond.
