Food City gets new registers
The Food City on Chapman Highway will soon be ringing in the summer with the sound of new cash registers.
When it goes live on June 26, the system will feature new software called Retalix, which will run on some of the existing hardware.
Customers will notice a difference in the receipts they receive, with all items scanned being grouped by department. Discounts under the new system will ring up with the sale price as well.
Within the next month a new program will start with this system called check management, which will allow a positive check file for trusted customers, instead of having them wait for ID to be checked each time.
It will also allow Food City to target customers with individual coupons tailored to their shopping habits, saving customers both time and money.
Responsible for introducing employees to the new registers is Training Supervisor Josh Brewster.
“I like it real well,” Josh told The Herald. “It’s a bit faster than the old system and enables us to tie in with other departments across the store.”
Next year, dual touch screens are also scheduled to be installed for use with the software.
The system will be included in all Food Cities by next November, rolling out across the entire franchise. It is already installed in the Sevierville and Gatlinburg locations.
The new Sevierville store, which will be open later this year on Dolly Parton Parkway, will have the complete system, touch screens and all, when it opens.
Rick Bottoms, Assistant Manager, likes the new software. “It’s a lot faster than the old system and a whole lot more updated than the one we use now. It’s also a lot more customer friendly.”
