“One of the best fireworks shows I’ve ever seen,” stated Bill Oakes, Sevier County Commissioner. He was talking about last year’s Fourth of July fireworks at the Seymour Community Park. The family event featured children’s face painting, a horse show, a clown and magic show, food booths and a variety of other family entertainment plus a professional fireworks display that rivaled the best of them.
“I didn’t expect this professional of a show and fun time for the entire family,” stated Bill Orr, one of the attendees. “The fireworks were the best.” The layout of the park allowed the fireworks to be demonstrated in such a way that the audience felt like they were practically inside the fireworks. Both the kids and the adults were pleasantly surprised with the results.
Sevier County Sheriff’s Chief Earl Clinton estimated that there were over 5,000 people that attended the family event last year. “We are overwhelmed with the people that are showing their support for the community and for this year’s show,” stated Joe Karl, organizer of the Annual Fourth of July event. “This community surprised itself last year when over 5,000 people showed up to see what it was going to be like. They were pleasantly amazed and shocked.”
Karl figures there will be even more people this year since the word is out about the success of last year’s event. “It’s free, it’s fun, it’s close to home and it’s for the entire family,” stated Karl.
Live entertainment with music from “2 Thirty” and “Kevin Miller,” displays, events for the kids, cheerleaders, martial arts demonstrations, gymnasts and other events are planned this year that will entertain the people right up until the fireworks. Food, craft and business booths will be showing and selling their wares.
The one-day event is co-sponsored by community businesses and individuals. To date they include The Herald Newspapers, Tennessee Graphics, Tennessee State Bank, Sevier County Utility District, Blalocks, Karaoke Café, Maranatha Church, Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center, Avon-Jill Hendrick, Brainstorm Café, Ivy’s Gifts & Seymour AdValue Pharmacy, The Stables, Subway, Domino’s Pizza, Papa John’s Pizza, and maybe you!
The Community Park consists of 14 acres. Seven acres are used for parking and seven for the family event. (Please no animals, coolers or personal fireworks allowed.)
