Koeneman signs

Kevin Koeneman is headed to Cleveland State in the fall on a full scholarship to play baseball for the Cougars. Kevin, a standout pitcher for the Seymour Eagles who tripped to the state tourney in 2003, signed the letter of intent on Wednesday June 25 for a scholarship that includes books and tuition. “I’m very happy,” Kevin’s father, Mike Koeneman, told The Herald. “I understand that’s a very good college to go to for baseball; a lot of good players come out of there with better opportunities in front of them.” When asked about his reaction to the award, Mike said, “I was probably more pumped up than he [Kevin] was. We’ve worked a lot on this.” “I remember when he played out at Bower Field,” Mike continued, “And all the work we’ve done since then. There was the injury, the broken hand we had to work through together, and seeing him achieve this makes me prouder than I can say.” Coach Brain McCord was pleased with the announcement as well. “It couldn’t happen to a better guy,” the baseball coach told The Herald, “He was my first kid at Seymour and I’m very proud of and excited for him.” “He had some rough going to work through both this year and last year,” Coach McCord continued, “But he applied himself and worked through it. He’ll get out to Cleveland and get a lot of mound time and someone will snap him up quick to finish out his college career.” Koeneman was an integral part of the team that Seymour sent to the state tournament in 2003, narrowly missing the finals in a loss to eventual state champs Ripley in the semi-finals.
