Caton’s Chapel student wins state essay contest

The Gatlinburg American Legion Auxiliary has chosen Kristian Maples, fifth-grader at Caton’s Chapel Elementary School in Sevierville, as first-place Tennessee winner in category I of the Americanism Essay contest.
Kristian, who is eleven, entered the contest last year with her essay titled “What Makes America Great.” She is the daughter of Captain Jimmy Maples of the Gatlinburg Police department.
The GALA will sponsor the contest again this year.
