It’s snow again

published: February 13 2003 12:00 AM updated:: February 13 2003 12:00 AM
Once again snow has hit the area bringing smiling faces to children and added work for the road crews and county workers. Morning commutes were slippery with the Tennessee Highway Patrol reporting snow and ice along the major highways and roads. Though most main roads were cleared officials said to use caution on bridges and overpasses because they are the first to freeze. Though the Seymour area was hard hit, Sevier County officials reported the biggest problems were in the Gatlinburg and Kodak area. TDOT was prepared, taking salt trucks out early Sunday morning pre-treating the roads with a liquid salt mixture. Seymour area residents have been spoiled the last few years with light snowfall. In fact, this is the first winter since 1996 where the area has seen above normal snowfall, accompanied by many cold days. The safest advice given by officials is if you don’t have to drive – stay home. If you do need to drive – use extreme caution.
