Taking it to the streets: Road construction in Sevierville

published: August 31 2003 12:00 AM updated:: August 31 2003 12:00 AM
The City of Sevierville is planning to add a right turn lane on Allensville Road, at the intersection with Winfield Dunn Parkway (Hwy. 66).  The turn lane will be for turning right only, from Allensville Road onto Hwy. 66 north. When complete, there will be three lanes available to drivers traveling west on Allensville Road, at the Hwy. 66 intersection: left turn only onto Hwy. 66 south, straight only across Hwy. 66 onto River Boulevard North, and the new right turn only lane. As part of the new Hwy. 448 road project, Old Douglas Dam Road will soon become a dead-end road at the current intersection with Hwy.66/Walker Street. Vehicles will still be able to access homes and businesses on Old Douglas Dam Road, but will not be able to travel all the way to Hwy. 66. This change is planned to occur after the new right turn lane on Allensville Road is constructed. Construction began Monday, July 28. The project should be completed in three - five days, weather permitting. The City of Sevierville Public Works Department will be performing the work. Construction is scheduled to take place between 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. daily. Motorists should expect delays at this intersection while construction is ongoing. During these hours, all westbound traffic on Allensville Road at the intersection with Hwy. 66 will be limited to the left turn lane. Vehicles will be allowed to turn left, go straight or turn right from this lane. After 3:30 p.m. daily, both of the current lanes will be open for traffic.
