Losing a daughter is tragic. Losing a daughter and granddaughter is nearly unbearable. Rev. Carl Gibson of Seymour Baptist Tabernacle Church and his wife Sherry are dealing with that loss along with other family members after the deaths of Seymour residents Kristin Elizabeth Gibson, 20, and her daughter Kailee Elizabeth Taylor, eight months old, in a single vehicle accident which occurred on Friday, July 25th at approximately 1:45 a.m. Gibson’s 1997 Nissan Pathfinder was traveling southbound at US 411 approximately 1/10 of a mile North of Ogle Rd. in Sevier County when it crossed the northbound lane, traveled into a ditch, through a yard and struck a tree head on. “She had left the house and was going to visit the baby’s father a short distance away but she never showed up,” stated Sherry Gibson. “I had a feeling something was wrong and we went to look for her around 2:30 a.m. and that’s when we say the police cars and lights. No one called us.” The accident is painful for the family in more than one way. “There were reports that the baby was not strapped in correctly,” stated Rev. Gibson. “That mother restrained the child as property as she knew how and the best of her ability. I’ve taken the child to church in that same car seat and the same way. She loved that baby and would do anything for it.” Kristin was a former student at Seymour High School and a graduate of Christian Fellowship Academy. She enjoyed playing on the Internet, going to church with her dad and talking on the phone. “She loved to talk on the phone,” Rev. Gibson said with a smile. “You’d never want to give her your cell phone.” Kristin thought of attending Tennessee School of Beauty and she was also considering working as a K-9 Police Officer. Kristin had said, “After high school I’m going to go to Walter State to take criminal investigation classes.” Sadly, none of those dreams became reality. Being a mother was one reality that sat well with Kristin. According to her family, she was a wonderful mother. In her daughter Kailee’s baby book, Kristin wrote, “I love you more than life itself and I would do anything for you. I hope you get to fulfill every dream you have. I will do anything and everything in my power to help you do it. I hope you find true love and you are happier than you could ever imagine. Just remember you can be anything you want to be and who you want to be!” “She was saved and she left testimony of being saved,” stated Rev. Gibson, speaking of his daughter. That is a source of comfort to the family, even in this time of emotional turmoil. Kristin and her baby daughter Kailee will be greatly missed. Funeral services were held Monday July 28th at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Freddy Gibson officiating.
