Adam Sandler takes the bucks home
Sandler with co-star Jack Nicholson were no match at the box office this weekend. To two with their new film, “Anger Management” grabbed the #1 spot at the box office. The film grossed more than the next 12 films combines in box office sales bringing in $44.5 million, the highest gross ever for a film opening in April. The previous record was held by “The Scorpion King,” with $36.1 million. Colin Farrell in “Phone Booth” took the #2 spot.
Singer passes away
Singer Little Eva, 59, who was credited for the 1960s hit “The Loco-Motion,” succumbed to cervical cancer last Thursday in a North Carolina hospital, according to her manager. The song, recorded in 1962, was a smash hit. She worked until October 2001, when she became too weak from her illness to perform. She is survived by two daughters, a son, 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He can act too?
Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs is scheduled to play blues legend Robert Johnson in the HBO biopic “Love in Vain,” according to trade papers. Production is scheduled to begin in September in Mississippi. Johnson died at the age of 27 and is responsible for such 1930s classics as “Crossroads,” and “I Believe I’ll Dust My Broom.”
Next time maybe he should take the bus
Sean Penn’s automobile was found after being stolen as he had lunch near the University of California campus at Berkeley last week. What wasn’t recovered were the two registered guns inside the car. Penn, 42, was driving back home just north of San Francisco in a black 1987 Buick Grand National.
