Consignment shop moves to Seymour Business Park

Seymour resident Teresa McCarter has only had her business opened for less than a year. Now she is expanding to a new and bigger location in the Seymour Business Park.
“I’m overwhelmed,” McCarter stated about the move. “I want to expand to carry a bigger line of teen clothing and adding infants through teens. I will be taking in upscale name brand, good quality clothing.”
McCarter’s store specializes in designer and name brand clothing at a fraction of store prices.
McCarter originally opened the store as a way of making extra income for her family. “I can’t hold down a regular job because one of my children is usually sick. This was a way for me to earn some money for my family but still give me the flexibility that I needed,” stated McCarter. Both of McCarter’s children, Cole age 11 and Jamie age 19, have undergone kidney transplants. Cole’s transplant was needed because of a ruptured appendix and Jamie has a rare kidney disease. “They are at the doctor’s a lot. So, even though I have regular hours, I’m not always here. My customers and consignors have been very understanding, they’re great.”
McCarter, who used to own a children’s consignment shop, stated, “I love clothes and I love talking with people. Plus, with this job I can pick my own hours.”
One customer told McCarter she was excited because she found a pair of jeans for $10, which she had just seen at the mall for $30. Prices are about one third to one fourth of department store prices. “Everyone wins,” says McCarter. “The kids get extra spending money, they can buy clothes at reduced prices and I get to do what I enjoy.”
Formerly Teen Scene Consignment Shop, McCarter is thinking of a new name to encompass infants and children’s clothing. If building goes as scheduled, the new consignment store will be opened and ready for business in the next couple of weeks, with plenty of time left for last minute Christmas shoppers.
