Bethel United Methodist Church Plans A Good Time Come see who is really “rocking” at Bethel United Methodist Church from 6 p.m. June 7 until 6 a.m. June 8. Hot dogs/chili/dessert/drink will be sold on Friday evening starting at 6 p.m. til ($3.50 donation). Breakfast (sausage, ham, biscuits, eggs, gravy, oj and coffee) will be sold Saturday morning starting at 6:30 a.m. - 8 a.m. ($5.00/adults; $3.00 children under 10 donation). Be sure to come prepared to “rock all night” with sponsorship or just to see who is rock and enjoy a meal with us. ALL sponsorship funds and proceeds from the sale of food will go toward our property/new building on Highway 411. AdventureCon Toy and Celebrity Event Dates: June 1-2, 2002. Location: Merchants I-75 Expo Center Admission is $5 Saturday from 9AM-5:30PM Sun: 9AM-4PM. Many celebrities will be in attendance. Memorial Weekend Flea Market, Garage Sale and Sale At the Heart of Blount Antique Mall, Sale at the antique mall on the May 25th – 27th , flea market and garage sale on the 25th in the parking lot beginning at 8:00 am. This program is designed to introduce you to the toads and frogs of Tennessee. There will be a slide presentation, accompanied by an audio segment, to help you learn what the local species look and sound like. Then take a naturalist-led stroll on the grounds of Ijams to test out your newfound knowledge. After you’ve completed the program, you’ll be armed with all the information you need to participate in the TAMP monitoring program. This program is free and is open to adults and children 10+ years. Join Ijams staff for this tell-all session on the mysteries of the lightning bug. Then walk the trails at Ijams to see the beauty and wonder of this insect in its natural setting. Nature Preschool – ABC’s of field and forest Thursday, June 13 from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15 from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Bring your favorite preschooler to Ijams and learn all about the ABCs of Field and Forest. This program is designed to introduce your little one to the natural world through games, crafts and nature walks. Program is for children ages 3-5 accompanied by an adult. Canoe Trip Saturday, June 15 from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. You’ll be surprised by how much you can see along the shores of the Tennessee River from a canoe. Join Ijams naturalists as they interpret the flora and fauna of land and water on this canoe trip. All equipment is provided. Program is for adults and children 8+ years accompanied by an adult. Music in the Park Summer Concert Series Saturday, June 15 from 6 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Join us for our second concert in this summer-long series. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair and head to the nature center to enjoy live music in a beautiful outdoor setting. This month’s featured music is bluegrass with The Fiddle Band and The Dismembered Tennesseeans performing. Food and beverage vendors include Calhoun’s Microbrewery, Back Yard Burgers and Marble Slab Creamery. Reduce Reuse and Recycle Resale Saturday, June 22 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. This is Ijams’ second annual rummage sale, and it’s going to be a good one. We’ll be selling used books, furniture, housewares, art, outdoor equipment and almost anything else you can think of. Come out and see what treasures you can find. If you’re trying to get rid of some treasures, we are also taking donations of items to be sold in the rummage sale (no clothes, please). You can drop off your donated items at the nature center the week of June 17, or you can call us and we’ll come pick them up! Smart Toys and Books Bookfair Saturday, June 22 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Join Ijams at Smart Toys and Books (9700 Kingston Pike) for an afternoon of fun and learning. Ijams naturalists and storytellers will be on hand at the top of every hour with animal presentations and nature-related stories. Alzheimer’s Support Group to Meet Sevier County Alzheimer’s Support Group meets Thursdays at 7 p.m. in the Thomas Wing of Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center. Summer Swim Program Pigeon Forge Tiger Shark summer swim program will be held June 3rd until August 4th at the Pigeon Forge Community Center. Flower Show in Dandridge The Martha Dandridge Garden Club will hold it’s annual flower show Friday, May 31, in the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church, Dandridge. The theme is “Tribute to Our Heroes” and entry is open to any amateur gardener or flower arranger. Entries will be accepted from 9 to 10:30 a.m. that morning. Free Mammograms Free screening mammograms and breast health information is available for uninsured women over the age of 40 living or working in Sevier County. Medic Blood Drive A Medic blood drive will be held from 9 to 4 pm Thursday, May 30 at Great Smoky Mountain National Park Headquarters in Gatlinburg From 10 to 6 pm, Friday May 31st, at Ft. Sanders Sevier Medical Center Nursing Home. Donors of all types are needed, but there is a special need for O positive, O negative and A negative blood types.
