Alzheimer’s Support Group to Meet
Sevier County Alzheimer’s Support Group meets Thursdays at 7 p.m. in the Thomas Wing of Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center. Call Steve Streibig at 428-6594 if your plan on bringing an Alzheimer patient or for more information.

Free Mammograms
Free mammogram screening and breast health information is available for uninsured women over the age of 40 living or working in Sevier County. That dates are Monday, July 8 at Sevier County Health Department, Monday, July 15 at Sevierville First Baptist Church, Wednesday, Aug. 28 at Gatlinburg Community Center and Thursday, Aug. 29 at Wal-Mart, Sevierville, Monday, Sept. 16 at Seymour First Baptist Church, Thursday, Sept. 26 at Sevierville First Baptist Church, Friday, Oct. 11 at Dollywood and Thursday, Oct. 24 at Sevier County Health Department. Weight Training Offered
Weight training classes offered by Sevierville Parks and Recreation are 6:15 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and 8:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Senior adult weight training class is at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday. For more information phone 453-5441.
Summer school in Seymour
Summer School opportunities at Seymour Middle School will include review of basic skills in language arts and math. The summer Math Camp is June 24th to 28th. Sixth grade Boot Camp is July 29th to Aug. 2nd. For details phone 573-9320.
St. Jude Benefit
Don Williams will be in concert at Country Tonite Theatre at 8 p.m. Friday, July 19th. Tickets are $25 plus tax with a portion of ticket sales proceeds going to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Porter High School class of 1952 has scheduled a 50th year class reunion.
The Porter High School class of 1952 reunion will be held on July 20th, 2002 at Oak View Community Center. The reunion will start at 2 p.m. and dinner will be served at 4 p.m. Tickets are $10.00 at the door. For more information, please contact Jean Rickels at 577-8466.
Heart of the Valley Writers Guild
Heart of the Valley Writers Guild will have its first meeting on Thursday, July 11th at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Sevier County Bank in Seymour. Project wet teacher workshop
Thursday, July 11 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Ijams outreach coordinator Shaney Palmer and water quality specialist Peg Beute will lead this workshop designed to prepare educators to use the Project WET curriculum in the classroom. This workshop includes lots of interactive, hands-on, grade-specific activities about the importance of healthy water. Cost is $15 for Ijams members and $25 for non-members. Bug Night
Saturday, July 13 from 8 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Join Ijams for its annual bug extravaganza. Stations will be set up around the Visitor Center pavilion and Ijams staff members Lyn Bales and Pam Petko-Seus will lead small groups around to each of these stations to look for insects of all kinds. The finale of the evening is a bug beauty contest, with prizes going to the people who find the prettiest, ugliest, largest and smallest bugs. Be sure to bring a bug box or a jar in which to collect your specimens. Program is for all ages. Program is free to Ijams members and $3 per person for non-members. ABWA to meet
The Sevier County Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association will be meet at 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, Pigeon Forge, Thursday, June 27, for networking opportunities. Dinner and meeting begin at 6:30 p.m. The guest speaker is Dr. Sandra Thomas will speak about “Women in Anger.”
Annie in Sevierville
The Sevier County Theatre Guild presents “Annie,” at the Sevierville Civic Center July 12-14 and July 19-21. Friday and Saturday shows are 7 p.m., Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets $10 in advance, $12 at the door. For more information call 428-9067.
Air Force band in concert
The Air National Guard Band of the Smoky Mountains will be in concert at the Sevierville Civic Center on Saturday, July 6 at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, however tickets must be reserved by phoning 908-4256. Also, dessert is $3 in advance or $4 at the door.
Holiday closing
Sevierville Community Center will be closed July 4 and reopen at 8 a.m. July 5.
