Commissioner steps down

Nashville, TN- Last Monday, July 8, 2002, Gov. Sundquist announced Mike Magill, commissioner for the Department of Labor and Workforce Development would be resigning his position.
Magill, who joined the administration in 1999, was praised by Gov. Sundquist for the success of the department. During Magill’s first year as commissioner, 140,000 jobs were filled. The Sundquist administration started the department three years ago when the Employment Security and Labor programs were combined.
Magill will be replaced by Mark Renike, the current Deputy Commissioner.
