All-Star outfielder joined the Blue Jays after Wednesday nights game Raleigh, NC— Tennessee Smokies outfielder Dewayne was recalled to the Toronto Blue Jays following Wednesday night’s 14-13 loss to Carolina. He will join the Blue Jays Thursday in Toronto for their series with Baltimore. To make room for Wise on the roster former Smokies infielder Felipe Lopez was optioned to Syracuse (AAA). Wise was enjoying a break out year in the Southern League, having been named to both the Double A and Southern League All-Star teams. Although he didn’t start the Double A All-Star Game last week in Norwich, Conn., he was named the Southern League Star of Stars after a 2-2 performance with two runs scored that featured an inside the park home run and diving catch in center field. Wise joined the Blue Jays in the major league portion of the Rule five draft in 1999 from the Reds. He went from Rockford of the Low A Midwest League to Toronto, where he spent most of the 2000 until he was sent to Tennessee to rehab late in the year. Wise, who has two options remaining, was hitting ..297 with 10 home runs and 49 RBI at the time of his promotion.
