Officers storm Newport drug store

NEWPORT - CVS Pharmacy on Cosby Highway in Newport was the scene of a hostage situation that the Newport police and Cocke County sheriff’s deputies rushed into where someone had been holding customers.
According to reports, several offices stormed the store, without firing shots. Some of the hostages ran out and at least two were directed to ambulances. There condition is unknown.
According to a Cocke County detective shots had been fired in the store earlier. The identity of the shooter was not known at press time.
Approximately 25 law enforcement vehicles, many of armed officers and a SWAT team descended on the building.
At press time, it is unclear how many people were in the store at the time of the shooting
