Plans are underway for the 2008 Eighth grade prom set for Saturday, May 10^th at the Music Road Hotel in Pigeon Forge.

There will be finger food, soft drinks and a DJ to provide music to the group of excited eighth graders ready to move on to high school.

A photographer will be available for an additional fee. Pictures will begin 30 minutes before the prom, which is scheduled from 7:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M..

Points to consider:

Dressy church attire is appropriate – NO JEANS or SHORTS.

ONLY Seymour Middle Eighth grade Students allowed.

The school recourse officer will by on duty and chaperones will be present.

Even though the Prom is not a school sponsored function, Seymour Middle School & Sevier County School Board rules and regulations will be followed and enforced.

The fee is $30 per person to be collected in the front hallway from 7:30 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. beginning Monday, January 21^st thru January 30^th. There will be no refunds.

Why would you not have this event at the school with a lower price so all of the children can attend? $30 is a little pricey for some families don't you think? I think all the kids should be able to attend. Not just the children of the parents can afford the dress, the tux, the ticket....etc...Yeah Yeah I know they can wear nice pants and shirts or church dress. How do you think they feel next to the ones decked out like it's their senior prom? I think it's crazy the 8th grade prom has turned into what it is today. It sure wasn't like this when I had mine.

i cant wait till prom i think it is fair not to have it at the school! i mean like we are there almost EVERYDAY!!! i know me and my friends have talked if it was at the school we would not come!!we like getting away from the school! $30.00 is better than what they could charge us like $50.00 ! that is a good deal!:) 8th Grade Rules!!!

LOL @ #2, I think you were told #1! Since the Middle School's gym is not air conditioned and this is not a "school sponsored" event, is probably the reason for the event to be held at an off campus location. Yes, tickets, limos, hair, nails, dresses, a tuxedo, corsage and a ticket can get pricey. I would think a majority of middle school parents know from sixth grade on that there is an eighth grade prom. If money is tight, put back a few bucks every week and give your child a memory that will last a lifetime!

prom was wayy overrated then the 8th graders think it is. when i was in 8th grade i was the same as you are and was ready for prom but i prob spent over 600 dollars when i couldve saved it or done something better its rrele fun but it is not all cut out as it seems.. but have fun and enjoy dont do anything stupid that you will regret

I kmow every body could to think that the prom day is some stupid to do, but this day is only one time in your life.., my son told me it was the most wonderful day in his life.. Now he is a Senior in High School and only he is wait for his new HS Prom on May 2008....

Looking back on both my 8th grade and Senior prom, only one thing comes to my mind... Have Fun! Yes it is somewhat overrated, but it will only be as good as each student makes it. Having it off campus is a great idea which allows these students to begin independence (which I know is just horrifying to some overprotective parents). Enjoy the prom and enjoy high school that follows. Congrats!

I've been in the 8th grade for 10 yrs at seemour ellemantry. Can I bring my daughter too? I dont know much about the classy church attire, is that like those fake silk shirts that we use to wear in the 70's when Falwell came to town.

for #9 if you were in the 8th grade for 10 years and were from seymour i think you should know how to spell SEYMOUR ELEMENTARY!!! geezz!! i think prom i not overrated !! yes i think spending over $300-$400 is very overrated!!!
