Walters State Community College will host the unique musical group Tennessee Schmaltz on March 23 and 25. The band comes complete with a keyboard, an accordion, two clarinets and a washtub bass.
The group will perform at the college’s Greeneville/Greene County Center for Higher Education at 9:30 a.m. on March 23 and in the theatre of the Judge William H. Inman Humanities Complex at 1:30 p.m. on March 23. Tennessee Schmaltz will perform at the Sevier County Campus at 1:15 p.m. on March 25. All performances are free and open to anyone.
The band describes its style as lively and traditional klezmer music with a flavor of southern Appalachian and jazz. Their repertoire represents a variety of Jewish music from around the world. The group has been performing together since 1995.
The band’s appearance is sponsored by the International Student Fee Oversight Committee.
