During the 1960’s the strip mall housed Dr. William Brooke, Jr., DDS, Dr. James Bell, Duncan Rexall Drugs which became Brake Drug Store, Harold Johnson’s barber shop, Chapman Highway Restaurant, Seymour TV repair, a pool hall, and Jason Steel’s service station. Karaoke Café now occupies much of the building as warehouse space. Huskey Valley Road which runs between the strip mall and Seymour Hardware was named for Mr. Huskey, and for a time the housing development behind there was known as Huskey Valley Subdivision. Mr. Huskey was an active community leader for many years in Seymour.

Clyde Huskey was one of the first developers in Seymour. He built the strip mall above about 1955. One of the men who helped him lay the foundation was Tom McCarter. He also built the first subdivision, a group of rock houses, just past the schools on Boyds Creek Highway.

Nice tidbit.
It would be nice to see some actual stores and shoppes and maybe even a restaurant or two take residence in this building, just like old times. Clean it up a bit too. It seems sad that it's being used for warehouse space, especially since it faces up to Chapman Hwy. I wish they'd put a warehouse someone off the main path and use the buildings that front the Hwy for something we Seymour residents could be proud of.
I was Dr. Brooke's assistant and Dr. Bell delivered my daughter during this time. We also had lunch at the restaurant. This sure did bring back a lot of memories.
Yes, it is sad to see "warehouse space" fronting Chapman Highway as the rest of Seymour continues to grow and develop.
Let me beat the rest of crowd on here and tell you about incorporating. If Seymour was incorporated that wouldn't be warehouse space. It would probably be filled with nationally known businesses. After all, if you listen the incorporation crowd, they'll tell you that will fix everything!
Now we need a strip club! Liqour served by the drink would be nice, too!
