entries now being accepted for first blue ribbon country fair

Townsend, TN - Get your vegetables planted, your peaches put up and your sheep sheared - it's almost Fair time! Entries are now being accepted in the following divisions for the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center's first-ever Blue Ribbon Country Fair, scheduled for Saturday, September 29 from 10-5:

4-H Poultry Show (contact county extension office)
Youth Sheep Show (contact county extension office)
Vegetables/Produce
Baked Goods
Canning
Honey Show
All contestants in pre-registered classes must be Blount County residents. Entries for all divisions will be accepted up through September 4 at 5:00 PM. Class list, rules/regulations, and entry forms are available at the Heritage Center in Townsend, or online at www.gsmheritagecenter.org, or via an email request to gsmhcevents@yahoo.com Entry forms are also available in Blount County at Anderson Lumber, Blount Greenback Farmers Cooperative, Tractor Supply, and Tyler Brothers Farm Equipment..

Ribbons through three places and premiums of $3, $2, and $1 will be awarded in each pre-registered class. Youth exhibitors in each division will receive a ribbon. Winners of Best Pie in the Cove contest, horseshoe pitching classes, Catch the Greased Pig and Decorated Hat contests will receive a trophy, along with ‘bragging rights' for one year. Contest participants may register on-site the day of the event.
"The fair is a new event for us but fits right in with our mission to promote the region's cultural heritage and family values," Bob Patterson, Heritage Center Director, said this week. "We're looking forward to it and invite everyone to come to the fair."
Ruth Davis, Walland, is chairperson for the event. The Blue Ribbon Country Fair 2007 is presented by Ruby Tuesday and sponsored by Joy Bishop, Blackberry Farm, Blount Greenback Farmers Cooperative, The Daily Times, Bo Henry, Integrity Development, Barry and Jeannie Van Winkle, and Vulcan Materials Company. Contributors include Blount County Livestock Association, John Keeble, Mayfield Dairies, Tennessee Department of Agriculture, the Tennessee Valley Fair and Tractor Supply Company.
