(Townsend) Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont presents Bill Staines in concert at Maryville's historic Palace Theater, April 27. Bill Staines has recorded 25 albums over a career that has spanned four decades. His songs range from traditional folk to contemporary country ballads and have been recorded by Nanci Griffith, Jerry Jeff Walker, Grandpa Jones, and Peter, Paul & Mary.
He's been featured on A Prairie Home Companion, Mountain Stage, and The Good Evening Show. You may know him best for his song "All God's Critters Got a Place in the Choir." His music is a slice of Americana, reflecting with the same ease, his feelings about the prairie people of the Midwest or the adventurers of the Yukon. He may even do a yodeling tune or two- having won the National Yodeling Championship in 1975 at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Kerrville Texas. For more information about the concert visit www.gsmit.org.
This is a kid friendly show so bring the whole family. Advanced tickets are available by calling Tremont at 448-6709. Tickets will be sold at the door on the date of the performance.
