What do you get when you give young people the opportunity to develop their photography and baking skills? You get over 200 4-H members participating in the annual County 4-H Photography and Baking Contest.
Sandy Helton, from Gary Woods Photography, judged the photography contest.  Winners included: Younger Division Animals - 1st place - Sydney Duncan, Sevierville Intermediate; 2nd place - Sarah Brackins, Pigeon Forge Middle.  Older Division Animals - 1st place -Kaila McPeake, Pigeon Forge High; 2nd place - Willow Webb - Homeschool.  Younger Division Building - 1 st place - Patience Floyd, Pigeon Forge Primary; 2nd place - Rachel Ellison, Pigeon Forge Middle.  Old Division Building - 1st place - Heather Hatcher, Wearwood; 2nd place - Will Curtis, Seymour Middle.  Younger Division Landscapes - 1st place -Rachel Ellison, Pigeon Forge Middle; 2nd place - Will Hortsmann, Homeschool.  Older Division Landscapes - 1st place -Logan Noland, Boyds Creek; 2nd place - Samantha Greene, Homeschool.  Young Division People - 1st place -Micki Werner, Pi Beta Phi; 2nd place -Katelyn Presnell, Seymour Middle.  Older Division People - 1st place - Logan Noland, Boyds Creek;  2nd place - Autumn Ward, Catons Chapel.  Judged Best of Show was Katie Engstrom, Homeschool and Best Special Effects Older Division was Lauren Gotham, Catons Chapel and Best Special Effects Younger Division was Brett Knappen, Sevierville Intermediate.  All Awards for the Photography Contest were sponsored by the Pigeon Forge Rotary Club.
      Michele Smith, Jessica Staut and Theresa Kanipe, Culinary Arts Department of Walters State Community College judged the County Baking Contest.  Winners included: 4th Grade Chocolate Chip Cookies - 1st place -
Kayla Taylor, Sevierville Intermediate; 2nd place - Makayla McVittie, Seymour Intermediate.  5th Grade Sugar Cookies - 1st place - Daniel Watson, Catons Chapel; 2nd place - Randa Leming, Seymour Intermediate.  6th Grade Peanut Butter Cookie: 1st place - Jared Bruhin, Sevierville Intermediate; 2 nd place - Rachel Negroe, Sevierville Middle;   7th  - 8th Grade Bar Cookies - 1st place - Brittani Edge, Wearwood; 2nd place - Will Curtis, Seymour Middle.  9th - 12th Grade Bar Cookies - 1st place - Samantha Greene Homeschool.
      The photography and baking contest are two of the many opportunities available to 4-H members in Sevier County.  For more information about these opportunities, please call me at 453-3695.  Programs in agriculture and natural resources, 4-H youth development, family and consumer sciences, and resource development - University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Agriculture and county governments cooperating.
