Time to sign up Kindergarten registration for the 2006-2007 school year in the Sevier County Schools will be held on March 17, 2006. As part of the Education Improvement Act of 1992, a kindergarten experience is mandatory in the State of Tennessee. To be eligible for kindergarten, your child must be five years of age on or before September 30, 2006. Parents should pick up a registration packet at the school the child will be attending ASAP. Complete registration packets must be returned on Friday, March 17, 2006 between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the school in which the child will be enrolled. Sevierville gym closed The Sevierville Parks and Recreation Department announces the closing of the Sevierville Community Center gymnasium on Thursday, January 26th due to maintenance. The gymnasium will reopen for regularly scheduled activities on Friday, January 27th at 6:00am. For more information, please call 453-5441. Sevierville Parks and Recreation Weight Training Classes Offered Sign up now of the weight training classes offered at the Sevierville Parks and Recreation Department. The Aerobic Weight Training Class is the ultimate exercise program that improves cardiovascular systems, burns calories, tones muscles, and improves strength and flexibility. This class combines aerobic exercise and weight training exercise - both types of exercise are important to total body fitness. New session will start on February 1st, 2006 Space is limited, call for more information, 453-5441 Class times and days are as follows: 5:30 p.m.…Mondays and Wednesdays 8:30 a.m.…Tuesdays and Thursdays. Group to meet The Sevier Count Chapter of TRL will hold its monthly meeting on Feb. 2 at 6:00 p.m.. The meeting will be at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Pigeon Forge in the family life room. Pet Expo There will be a large Pet Expo at the Jacobs Building in Chilhowee Park on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, February 3,4,5. Speaker to give presentation Meridian Baptist Church (across from McDonalds) on Chapman Hwy. Triple C Club will meet Thursday February 2nd 2006. A coffee fellowship will follow at 10:30 a.m. and a program at 11:00 a.m. with lunch to follow at a cost of $3.00 per person. The program will feature a return visit from Garry Gibbs the Farmer Praise and Worship Director for the Sunday Morning Church Services at the Louise Mandrell Theater. RIF Day Pi Beta Phi Elementary in Gatlinburg will be having their RIF book distribution day on Monday January 30. Each student in the school will receive a new paperback book of their choice. To celebrate RIF Day the students are encouraged to wear RED and to show they are REaDy to REaD. Fit For Life Class Fit for Life is a group fitness class for those who are 55 years old or older. The class will be held at the Pigeon Forge Community Center every Tuesday from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. beginning in September. The class will be free to Pigeon Forge Community Center Members and $3.00 per class for Non-Members. This class is designed to improve cardiovascular function, strength, flexibility, and balance. The class can be done standing or from a chair. This year “Bark” will be held indoors in the newly renovated Jacobs Building in Chilhowee Park. Of course, the Strut Your Mutt walk will be held rain or shine before “Bark” begins. Tennessee Firearms Association Knoxville Chapter The Knoxville Chapter of the Tennessee Firearms Association will have its monthly meeting at Bob’s Mountaineer Restaurant at 10321 Chapman Hwy., in Seymour, TN. On Tuesday evening February 7, 2006 at 7 p.m. the group will gather between 6&7 p.m. for dinner (optional). Our speaker will be Tom Wiest who writes hunting and outdoors columns for local newspapers. Tusculum College Tusculum College Graduate & Professional Studies will be holding an Information Drop-in on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 from 11AM - 2 PM and 4 PM-6 PM, drop-in anytime.
